Re: Plume modelling for a moving source.
Hi Tom, We usually handle complex emission scenarios by using an additional file called an EMITIMES file as input into HYSPLIT. In the EMITIMES file, many emissions can be defined, each with their own start time, duration, location, rate, area and even a heat value which will cause plume rise to be ...

Re: how to obatin running data
The concentration output files are binary files and their format is described here. https://www.ready.noaa.gov/hysplitusersguide/S363.htm HYSPLIT distribution comes with a con2asc utility which will convert these files into ascii text files. There are some other utilities such ash xtrct_stn and con2...

Re: Top of Model Setting
In the CONTROL file (or through GUI) you set the concentration grid. https://www.ready.noaa.gov/hysplitusersguide/S313.htm I assume then that you are setting the vertical levels in the concentration grid up to 40 km? Since the GDAS does not give model winds above 20 hPa, then HYSPLIT will extrapolat...

Re: Average Meteorological data
You can find the description of the data_avrg utility program here (as well as other utility programs). https://www.ready.noaa.gov/hysplitusersguide/util.htm#data_avrg It sounds like you want to get a time average of the data over 4 months? We do not have a utility that does this. If you just need t...

Re: trajectories spanning multiple weeks of met data
You can run trajectories that require more than one meteorological data file on READY website. READY will simply create a CONTROL file that has more than one meteorological data file specified in it to cover the specified time period. See example below for trajectory that goes back 300 h. 22 10 15 1...

Re: Issues with latlon exe file while computing trajectories over the whole domain
The latlon program is just doing something very simple. It is creating the starting trajectory points on a regular lat-lon grid. Beginning and ending points are given by the first and second line. Spacing is given by the difference between the first and third lines. It isn't matching the grid points...

Re: Issues with latlon exe file while computing trajectories over the whole domain
The **** is just caused because the latlon program wasn't taking into account that someone would run so many trajectories altogether. So it looks like your span is 11.492 degrees longitude 9.5029 degrees latitude Then your increment is 0.021 degrees longitude 0.0189 degrees latitude This gives about...

Re: Issues with latlon exe file while computing trajectories over the whole domain
Can you please attach or copy the CONTROL file you are using as input into the latlon program? Points that are within 2 grid cells of the edge of the meteorological grid are considered outside of the domain. So if you are trying to give starting locations that are on the very edge of the meteorologi...
