Fatal Error 900

Post by UCPH1 »

I am new to HYSPLIT and I am trying to run backward and forward trajectories in Greenland.

Start time: 16 06 01 00
Starting locations: 3 starting locations at 67.00 -47.00 at 2000, 3000 and 4000 m agl)
Run time: 96 hours
Direction: back
Top of model: 4000
Vertical motion: 0 = input model data
output: just setting it to my desktop

once I try running it I get the message : *FATAL ERROR* main: all source points off all meteo grids!
See MESSAGE file for more information. 900

Any help would be appreciated.

What meteorological data did you use? Check if you have files for May and June because you are computing backward trajectory starting at June 1st 00 UTC.
You should also set the model top to a higher altitude, like 10000.

I am trying to use NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis (1948 - present) I have also been looking into various others like GDAS but it is telling me "*ERROR* metpos: start point not within (x,y,t) any data file - start time before start of meteorology data" which I presume to means they dont have data for my starting coordinates (67.00, -47.00)

NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis is a global dataset. I was able to run backward trajectories from the starting location (67.00, -47.00). You need to have RP201605.gbl and RP201606.gbl files because your starting time is 2016/06/01 00 UTC.

That was my issue I was only using RP201505.gbl I was not including the 201606.gbl but thanks!

One last question, what is the best way to compute monthly mean trajectories? I am trying to look at the difference in backward and forward trajectories between summer (June, July, August) and winter (December, Jan, Feb) monthly means.

Maybe you can look at this section of the HYSPLIT tutorial: https://www.ready.noaa.gov/documents/Tu ... _freq.html
It is about how to generate daily trajectories and process the output for the trajectory frequency.
