Frequency plot problems

Post by tomr »

Hello,

We've been dabbling with registered Hysplit4 for OS X on and off for few months now. It seems to be working OK in most cases.

Some issues:

1) Trajectory and frequency plot color gradient is lacking significantly compared to the web version (only yellow, blue, green, and cyan colors on registered version, and >100% !??? [decimal off by one digit?]).

2) Starting location (red dot) in trajectory frequency plot changes (along with source numbers) based on grid resolution selected, which either happens for some unknown reason, or is a serious bug that should be addressed. Registered and online versions are both affected. I did notice that actual starting point are identical, and that only the red dot changes - maybe an easy, aesthetic fix? Examples attached.

If you could shed some light on these, it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Tom

Please see the following documentation on Trajectory Frequency plots:
- Tutorial Section 6.1 - https://ready.arl.noaa.gov/documents/Tu ... index.html
- GUI HELP (S231.htm) - Trajectory / Display / Frequency / HELP

(1a) Yes, the web has different color scale however you can set the colors on the PC/MAC by setting the concplot options. In the Tutorial, click on the top icons to get the batch or linux code to see that concplot is the plotting program for trajectory frequency even though it is normally used for plotting dispersion concentrations.

(1b) the HELP section describes the case >100%

(2) The red dot is the maximum value. The trajectory start location (lat-lon) is given on the left side of the plot. It doesn't look like you used the same set of trajectories when you changed the trajectory frequency grid resolution.

Hi Barbara,

Thank you for your reply. I will explore the help sections you suggested.

We did indeed choose the same start location for .25 and 1 deg plots. Vertical "Source" label appears to change based on plot resolution. This can be easily reproduced. I just tried it, and will try few more this afternoon with a different starting point. Could something be wrong with our installation?

Regards,
Tom
