conversion HYSPLIT ARL

Post by Esmaeil Mohammadian »

Dear all

I have downloaded the gdas0p5 file for a new run with HYSPLIT Trial verstion, which is 690 Mb! ftp://arlftp.arlhq.noaa.gov/archives/gdas0p5
my question is how to convert this file to a proper meteorological data format?
I want to run the model with this data!
also I wonder the database used for each run should be voluminous up to 700 Mb!!!
or there is a better way to gather meteorological data for special place like Middle east or Saharan Desert?

thank for your time and consideration

That dataset is ready to be used to run hysplit. You do not need to convert it.

Regarding the data size, you could run the program called xtrct_grid.exe that is located in your exec directory. That program can extract a subgrid from your dataset.

In the following link you will find the required information:
http://ready.arl.noaa.gov/documents/Tut ... enter.html

Be aware that meteorological data at a single location and valid at only one height should not be used for complex trajectory or disperion simulations.
