Re: GDAS Archive at University of Alaska
Hello,
Can someone help me about
1) The detail data discription of each parameter how it is calculated in GDAS data set. The U and V winds are in m/s but the W wind is given in terms of the pressure and its unit is "hPa/s" can anyone suggest how to convert the wind unit from hpa/s to m/s
2) Can anyone help me how to read the GDAS 0.5 degree dataset and write it in the form of ASCII dataset
I'll be very thankful to you.

Re: GDAS Archive at University of Alaska
1) Here you can find several links that explain in detail how the parameters are calculated in GDAS.
http://www.ready.noaa.gov/gdas1.php
http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/gmb/gdas/
http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/GFS/doc.php
To convert from hPa/s to m/s you will need to divide the w by the density times g (gravity).
2) If you have the GUI installed in your PC you can click on Meteorology/Display Data/ text profile/
to see the data in ascii. Other visualization tools are available under the same menu.
However, you will not be able to convert the whole grid to ascii.
