Read Wind direction data from GDAS file

I need to read the wind direction data at one location at all altitude from GDAS1 meteorological data for 1 year period. Previously Yaqiang has posted a script to read the height of boundary layer height from GDAS1 file using MeteoInfo (viewtopic.php?f=25&t=47. That is quite close to what I want. But the script only applies to 2D data like boundary layer height. Can anyone suggest how to revise the script so that it can read the data in 3D filed (including altitude).
