Removal of NAM 40 km forecast dataset

On or about July 16, 2013, the NAM 40 km pressure level forecast data set will be removed from READY and replaced by the NAM 12 km pressure level data set that will have almost all the fields currently available in the NAM 40 and the forecast will be extended to 84 hrs to match the current NAM 40 km data set.

any news on any change to the gfs forecast dataset or it will remain the same?

There are no changes to the GFS forecast data set, however we may add the 0.5 degree horizontal resolution hybrid-sigma level data to the HYSPLIT interface later this year.

The NAM CONUS 40 km and NAM Alaska 45 km data sets will be removed from READY tomorrow (July 25) after the NCEP supercomputer switch planned for 1230Z.

Will this affect the HYSPLIT meteorological archive files? Specifically, will the EDAS 40km files continue to be available? (ftp://arlftp.arlhq.noaa.gov/pub/archives/edas40/)

The EDAS 40 km data set is still available, only the 40 km NAM is being removed.
