HRRR backtrajectories are very different

Post any defects you find in the HYSPLIT software here. The HYSPLIT Developers carefully monitor this list and will work diligently to repair any reported problems. When posting a bug report, please specify both the HYSPLIT version and operating system you are using.

HRRR backtrajectories are very different

I repeated an HRRR backtrajectory online with the same setup as I ran last year and have quite different results, attached. The backtrajectory from last year seems correct when comparing with other models. Maybe I'm missing something in the setup? Has HRRR analysis changed recently?

The HRRR archive for 2021 has not changed. However, the HYSPLIT model for online access was upgraded to version 5.3.0 on December 4, 2023 and to version 5.3.2 on February 1, 2024. Please refer to https://www.arl.noaa.gov/hysplit/hysplit-model-updates/ for highlights of changes that went into version 5.3.0.
