Hi,
As I run the special runs for ensemble in section 12.1, I am getting an error saying

"HYSPLIT - Initialization 1
HYSPLIT version: hysplit.v5.0.0
Last Changed Date: 2020-05-13
Enter starting time (year, month, day, hour)
0 0 0 0
forrtl: The pipe has been ended."

What does this mean?

Same message for me. Simulation did not execute.

I have the same error. I have attached my control and setup files.

[EDIT] In case it helps, I am running unregistered HYSPLIT on Windows 10.

Same error for me, same message. Attached is the error message log.
Same result even if I load the ensemble setup and control files provided with the tutorial.

Thank you for sending in your CONTROL and SETUP files.
We have reproduced the error using them and are working on a solution.

I just repeated the simulation a 2d time and obtained the same results as well. Note I used the captex2 control and setup files in the Tutorial folder.

Can you check if you have the file
D:/HYSPLIT/Tutorial/captex/captex2_wrf27uw.bin

Yes- I have the file "HYSPLIT/Tutorial/captex/captex2_wrf27uw.bin", and have been using it throughout the rest of the tutorial

@alicec - I do indeed have that file. I have also verified that the same error arises when running the turbulence ensemble. The physics ensemble works fine, however (different executable?).

Have you tried starting over from scratch? Close out the gui.
Open it back up. Load the ensemble_control and ensemble_setup files from the tutorial/files
and try again. Please let us know how it goes.
