THREDDS Interface

Hi All,
Question-is there a resource out there on how to interface directly to THREDDS? I see in many of the comments that THREDDS is used as a data provider, but what about data formatting on the return data? Has anyone written code for HYSPLIT to random access THREDDS if we alias variable names? Thanks
