Hysplit doesn't complete days of simulation with era5 when arrive to 180 °W

Hysplit doesn't complete days of simulation with era5 when arrive to 180 °W

Hello!

I have a problem when I run hysplit with era5 meteorological data. I am trying run backward trajectories for 7 days, however some trajectories don't complete 7 days when these arrive to longitude 180°W. Had anybody fix this problem?

I attached 2 files as examples: the first file was completed successfully for 7 days, and the second file only completed about 5 days.

HYSPLIT only implements cyclic boundary conditions for global meteorological data sets.
So if the ERA5 data is not global and it has been extracted so that 180 degree is the edge, then
trajectories will be terminated at that edge.

So if I am working with data of the south hemisphere, [-180, 180, -90, 0], will Hysplit still terminate if the trajectories reach 180?

Hi Charlie,

I have the same issue as you. I am running Hysplit using ARL files created from ERA5 grib.

My files are -180 to +180 in latitude, 30 to 90 in longitude.

Did you find a workaround for this?
