Backword trajectory modelling

Post by khans »

My name is Suhail Khan. I work with the Queensland Government Department of Environmental and Science (ex EPA).

Our project site has three major odour causing sources (two composting and one landfill facilities). The site also have one met station recording temperature, RH, wind speed and wind direction and 10 m high ultrasonic wind sensors at three location recording every minute. The data will be stored on the clouds. The sensitive receptors (residences) are located from 1 km to 5 km from these sources in all directions. The modelling domain of the site is about 10 km x 10 km. The site has complex topography and calm wind conditions. The dispersion of pollutants is subject to spatial variability and terrain channelling effects.

Our project objective is to determine the source(s) of odour in the event of odour complaints at the sensitive receptor (e.g. residence) using the backward trajectory model and to develop a source-receptor matrix.

In case of odour related complaints, we would like to run the model to determine who is responsible for the odour nuisance during that event. The model should be able to run for a short range modelling domain, using sub-hourly met data and produce sub-hourly wind fields and backward trajectories. We would like to display the modelling results on the computer screen for the field officers to investigate it further. I believe HYSPLIT model will be ideal for this situation.

I would like to know that is it possible to use HYSPLIT model for short-range applications and our research project?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
