Can I call this a 'footprint'?

I'm using nested met files to cover my domain and a little beyond for 72 hour concentration back trajectories with a big number of particles.
1/hr emission rate, 1 hour of emission
I run hycs_std, then ../exec/con2asc <input> <output>
This makes a bunch of <Prefix>_JDAY folders, ideally 71, I think.
In my handy data manipulation tool, I load up all of those gridded particle release results. They do not all sum to the same value. I'm assuming this is because I've defined my grid top to be 100 meters and I'll lose particles out the top.
Then I make a big domain sized matrix and add all 71 results.
I'm tempted to call the summed matrix my surface "footprint" for that particular arrival/initial release time. Would this be poor nomenclature?
