Some of the back trajectory simulations that I run are not going to completion. I have specified a back calculation time of -168 hours, but the back trajectory is only modeled back to as little as 5 hours in some cases. I've used two different data sets (NECEP Reanalysis & GADS 1 degree res), but both have produced incomplete trajectories. It is possible to run the model simulations on the web-based HYSPLIT models with the above data sets, so the data are there.
Does anyone have any insight into what might be causing this issue?

Re: Incomplete back trajectory calculation
There are 2 reasons why the trajectories do not run to completion:
1) the trajectories leave the meteorological domain (horizontally or vertically)
2) the times covered by the meteorological data do not cover the time for the requested trajectory.
