HYSPLIT's insensitivity to TKE

Hi,
I am running simulations with HYSPLIT using WRF output, and I have noticed that HYSPLIT seems to be unaffected by how I change the TKE. I am using KBLT=3 and have TKE_PBL/TKEN in both WRFDATA.CFG and the netCDF file. Even after extreme adjustments (such as a uniform 0 m2/s2 or uniform 5000), I see no difference in the HYSPLIT output.
Is this a known problem? Or is this something that I am doing wrong? Is there some way to get around this issue?
I was using HYSPLIT5.2.3 but switched back to HYSPLIT4 for reasons unrelated. I am using the appropriate arw2arl tool, and delete the prior binary files before use, so I know that that tool is not failing. Are there any other things that I may be overlooking that would cause similar dispersion patterns with no regard to TKE?
Thank you in advance,
