GDAS 1 Degree vs 0.5 Degree

Post by Smaug »

Hi,

Does the temporal resolution between the GDAS 1 Degree and GDAS 0.5 Degrees available on the FTP Server differ?

Many Thanks

No, they both have 3 hour temporal resolution.

Thanks,

Up to what altitudes do these met files go up to? It seems HYSPLIT produces an error if the top of the atmospheric domain is greater than 100km.

You can run profile on the meteorological data which will give you both the time resolution and the
pressure levels. gdas goes up to about 10 mbar (about 25 km) which is sufficient for most purposes.

If you really need up to lower pressure levels then your best option may be to download
the merra2 dataset which goes up to 0.01 Pa.

Do you know how can I join the weekly met data files of GDAS1 in just one file?

The ARL files can be concatenated.
On linux

cat file2.ARL > file1.ARL
