Web based HYSPLIT dispersion model

Post by Malini »

Hi,

I am new to HYSPLIT dispersion model (for volcanic ash).

http://ready.arl.noaa.gov/hysplitash-bin/disp1a.pl

In the web interface method, I found this note w.r.t. Total Duration field:

"Total Duration: Specify the duration of the calculation in hours. A maximum of 48 hours can be specified on the web."

Is there any other way in the web interface wherein I can specify upto 100 hours of total duration in the model?

If none, can somebody guide me what is the maximum duration that can be specified in PC installation and if possible share the steps for the same?

Thanks & Regards,

Malini Krishnan

The answer to you question is No. For volcanic ash runs, runs are limited to 48-h at the legacy "VAFTAD" website where you are running it and to 72-h at this website: http://ready.arl.noaa.gov/HYSPLIT_disp.php.

In the PC version there is no hard limit on number of hours, of course you need to have all the meteorology you will need in the CONTROL file and you need to have enough number of particles to get a reasonable result.

In case you are not aware, there is training information available at http://ready.arl.noaa.gov/HYSPLIT_Tutorials.php

What is the analogue of Pollutant, Concentration Grid, and Deposition setup under Concentration setup in the web tool?

At http://ready.arl.noaa.gov/hypub-bin/dispatype.pl, for volcanic ash, there are options for "Deposition/Ashfall", "Option to change particle size distribution" (pollutant), and "Advanced Options" (concentration grid).
