I'm running HYSPLIT in a STILT-like mode (ichem=9) and I have 2 questions on the mixed layer depth.
1) I have 2 output levels in my Control file, 3000 and 9999. I had thought with ichem=9 the bottom level would be replaced by half the mixed layer depth. In one of my runs at one of the time steps I had a value of 11406 for the "3000" level, which seems unreasonably large. Where does the "level" reported in the cdump files come from? Is it an average of mixed layer depths at all points in the domain?
2) Is there an option similar to KMIX0 where I can set a maximum mixed layer depth? I prefer to keep KMIXD=0 and just put a ceiling (e.g. ~3000 magl) for the occasional large value.
Running PC version (Windows, Feb 2016, svn:802).

Re: ichem=9 mode and mixed layer depth
1) For ichem=9, set the bottom level to the desired fraction of the mixed layer depth times 100. Therefore, for the bottom level to be half the mixed layer depth set the first output level to 50. The levels reported in the cdump file are averages for the entire domain.
2) Currently there is no option for a maximum mixed layer depth.
