Hello,
I want to know the detail regarding the mixing layer depth calculation in HYSPLIT. There is some information available about the mixing layer depth in hysplit documentation. At what time interval we get the MLD output from hysplit.
Although MLD can also be calculated from the meteorological data output which is at 6 hours interval. Is there any difference between the MLD calculated from HYSPLIT and meteorological output.
Could you please suggest me link/information or some research article in which some sort of comparison regarding method of estimation or error estimation in MLD from HYSPLIT is mentioned.
I shall be very thankful to you.
Thanks
Gracy

Re: regarding MLD
Please check section 4.1 of the Description of the HYSPLIT modeling system:
http://www.arl.noaa.gov/documents/reports/arl-224.pdf
There you can find the method that HYSPLIT uses to calculate the PBL.

Thanks for your reply
It is just a query. When we run the mixing layer depth from HYSPLIT.
"Under Mixing layer computation method" there There is option to select the use meteorological model. If I know a meterological model which provides the MLD within HYSPLIT then is there some option to select which meteorological model output I want to select.
In case I select the option " USE METEOROLOGICAL MODEL' in that case I want to know what the HYSPLIT is doing. I think it is doing some preprosessing to the data and then interpolating the data to hourly interval.
I dont want to run the entire model but only need this information.
Thanks

Re: regarding MLD
If the meteorological model you are using to run HYSPLIT has the PBL height then that is the height that the simulation is using when you ask for the USE METEOROLOGICAL MODEL
Re: regarding MLD
Hello,
Thanks for your reply. Yes when the USE METEOROLOGICAL MODEL is selected and required data is selected then whether HYSPLIT do some processing of data? or interpolation.
I think for time the interpolation is made
Is there any processing which is made in the MLD data.
Thanks for your reply

Re: regarding MLD
The meteorological data are interpolated to the position and time each lagrangian particle or trajectory need during the calculation.
The report that I pointed you to (http://www.arl.noaa.gov/documents/reports/arl-224.pdf) describes the equations in which each meteorological data are used.
