Vertical motion method

Post by lnguyen5 »

I was wondering where I could find further information about the Vertical motion methods, especially for average data and damped magnitude ?
thank you

The choice of vertical motion method depends on what you are trying to follow in the atmosphere. There is further information on the vertical motion method choice on the following web page and in particular the last paragraph. We generally recommend to choose the "model vertical velocity" option if you don't have another reason to choose the other options. The only time this may not be the best choice for general use is if you have very fine spatial resolution data (< 4km) but do not have very fine temporal resolution to go with it because the vertical motion field of the model can have large up and down drafts due to convection in these models that you do not want HYSPLIT to use for more than a short time period.
