Error in backward tracking when encountering the dateline

Post by bliucy »

Dear Sir or Madam,

Recently I got a problem when using HYSPLIT to do backward tracking. I have made a lot test running. The tracking always stop in the vicinity of the dateline (180), the terminal longitude is like -176, 175 and so on. The input data is from ERA5. I have used ERAI, NCEP dataset before and found no problem. So I wonder if you could help me on this issue. Thanks so much.

With best regards,

Bo

Is the dataset global?
You may encounter this problem if you have a data which covers the poles but not
the whole globe - e.g. it covers -180,180 and then from 45 latitude to 90 latitude.
HYSPLIT will only apply cyclic boundary conditions to a global dataset.
