Running Trajectories on Irregular Time Intervals

Post by JKirk »

Hello,

New user to HYSPLIT, so please forgive the basic questions.

I'm interested in running some Frequency and Clustering analyses in HYSPLIT. My data represent select days from 1980-2014, but the dates occur at irregular intervals throughout the time period (i.e. a few days scattered through each month; thousands of dates in total).

1. What is the best way to work with this dataset in HYSPLIT? Do I need to run trajectories for all days from 1980-2014 and then select out just the trajectories on/around the days I'm interested in? Or is there a way to specify an irregular series of dates in the Control file?

2. To do the above, from what I understand, I need to download meteorology data (e.g. NARR) for each month from 1980-2014. If so, it appears as though that data would be very large collectively (at least 700+ GB), is that correct? Or is there a more efficient way to incorporate the meteorology data for my application?

Thank you for any assistance.

Yes, to run trajectories on your computer. you would need to download the meteorology data, which does take up space.
