backwards trajectories for 2 months

Post by LenaLatah »

Hello,
I’m trying to calculate 7 days backwards trajectories for 2 months. The meteorological data is taken from ARL data FTP Reanalysis. When I run the model > special run> daily for one month period as a result I’m getting files in different length, some of them seem to have seven days info available, but most of them have the trajectories just for one day. I wonder why could it be and how to fix it, i.e. how to get 7days backwards trajectories for each day of the whole month.

There is a description of the 'run daily' feature in section 5.1 of the Tutorial at http://www.ready.noaa.gov/documents/Tut ... index.html.

The key is that when you first go into Trajectory - Trajectory Setup, you are making a template for the trajectories. For 7-day trajectories, set the Total run time to 168 hours. To go 7 days back from days 1-7 of the month, the previous month's meteorology data file must also be chosen.

Thank you for the reply.

I do exactly as you said, but the problem is that most of my tdump files are not containing the full info.
For example, when running for 168 hours i have lots of files like this big:

3 1
CDC1 14 8 1 0 0
CDC1 14 9 1 0 0
CDC1 14 10 1 0 0
1 BACKWARD OMEGA
14 9 5 12 26.500 -155.690 500.0
1 PRESSURE
1 1 14 9 5 12 0 0 0.0 26.500 -155.690 500.0 958.9
1 1 14 9 5 11 0 0 -1.0 26.536 -155.539 506.7 958.5
1 1 14 9 5 10 0 0 -2.0 26.582 -155.387 515.8 957.7
1 1 14 9 5 9 0 0 -3.0 26.638 -155.234 527.5 956.6
1 1 14 9 5 8 0 0 -4.0 26.703 -155.080 542.1 955.2
1 1 14 9 5 7 0 0 -5.0 26.777 -154.927 559.8 953.4
1 1 14 9 5 6 0 0 -6.0 26.862 -154.776 580.7 951.1
1 1 14 9 5 5 0 0 -7.0 26.952 -154.628 601.7 948.6
1 1 14 9 5 4 0 0 -8.0 27.044 -154.483 619.2 946.8

For the whole month only one tdump file consist of the full 7 days trajectories, and the # of the day is arbitrary. For example, i'm running September 2014 and only September 4th has the full data.
I'm still pazzled how to solve this issue.

There is an output file MESSAGE that is written. Unfortunately with the 'run daily' for each trajectory it is over-written. If the last trajectory is not 7 days, look at the MESSAGE file since there may be an error message.

Try running the case you show the output for - 12z Sept. 5 2014 - manually and see if it works.
