GDAS w/ volcanic ash

Post by tamigwx »

Currently attempting to run HYSPLIT volcanic ash model for archived ash concentrations using GDAS. When the eruption happens at the end of a weekly period (say the 21st, end of week3) and I attempt to run the model 48 hours, it crashes, or shows erroneous results. I'm assuming this is due to the weekly format of gdas1 - In order to run it needs the next week's data?.. Is there a way around this? Apologies if this has been previously addressed - I didn't see anything in the guide/previous posts.

you will need to select additional GDAS data that contains the time period you are interested in. In the CONTROL file you can add the meteorological data files needed for your run.

Can this be done through the READY system?

The ready system does this automatically. The only limitation is on the run hours for the volcanic ash run
