Running decades using ERA5 ?

Post by Sentia »

Hello,
I would have liked to run hysplit over 1 to 3 decades to make statistics related to a climatology, using the ERA5 reanalyses. I testes to download only 1 day ERA5 data and convert it to ARL, using https://github.com/amcz/hysplit_metdata. However, it took me more than 24h ... Is this realistic?
So I am wondering of the feasibility of what I aimed to do. Should I take GDAS data although I will loose meteorological accuracy? What do you thing?
Best regards,

Was it the downloading time that was the problem? The conversion itself should be pretty fast.

Unfortunately I'm not sure of how to solve the problem of long download times.
I think there are various ways you can try to subset the data to make it faster.

I also see it may be available here, but I have not tried to use it from NCAR yet.

Please keep us updated if you find any tricks or tips or can use the data from NCAR.
