Subgridding HRRR data before downloading

Post by zrl254 »

Is it possible to subgrid sets of HRRR data before downloading? I would like to crop a geographic subset of the file before downloading to reduce download time and file sizes. I am aware of the NOAA download tool that allows for subgridding one file at a time, but I am looking to download a few months of the HRRR data and would prefer to automate the process.

Probably you could write a script that automates downloading HRRR data files from the ARL archives. See https://www.ready.noaa.gov/archives.php on how to use ftp access. Downloaded files may be cropped by using xtrct_grid or xtrct_time: see https://www.ready.noaa.gov/hysplitusers ... xtrct_grid. These are executables contained in the ARL HYSPLIT package.
