Dear Forum and ARL team,

After doing a bit of research, I was unable to find any pre-1948 reanalysis data that could be used with Hysplit.

Are you aware of any meteorological dataset that exists or is currently being developed that would cover the time period before NCEP/NCAR?

I am particularly interested in the year 1945 (both global and conus).

I am not aware of one. ERA5 also starts at 1950.
There may be some issues with getting observations for a reanalysis before this time period.

I believe I found the data I need in grib format. I am now trying to convert it to ARL format. I will move the discussion to conversion once I have done a few tests with existing conversion routines. More soon!
