Hi all,

I hope all is well--

Out of curiosity has anyone ran into FTP client errors while downloading gdas data? To clarify, I am on a windows machine and
Where this issues occurs (somewhat step-wise process):
1) Log into the server; server: arlftp.arlhq.noaa.gov port: 21 all selecting Anonymous Login
2) navigate to the archives and find the gdas folter
3) downloaded gdas.aug17.w1
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
At step 3 I periodically receive the error message:

FTP response 421 recived. Server closed connection.
The connection attempt was rejected. the server may be down,
or your network may not be properly configured.
--> Try Again

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think this may be appropriate either in here, meteo data or the windows PC section.

That said I can navigate directories just fine but the periodic disconnection is not great. I wonder if technically I need to be a registered member on hysplit or a noaa site for the connection to be uninterrupted. I could also try another ftp client

If you were using the FTP command provided by MS Windows, you might want to use a third-party FTP client such as FileZilla FTP Client, WinSCP, etc. The FTP command does not support passive mode and this might be causing the connection issue you experienced.
