Extracting wind data from HYSPLIT GFSF files

Post by FlyingTrashcan »

I'm sort of a noob, so my apologies in advance if my question is a little basic. We are looking to use the HYSPLIT GFSF files to predict weather balloon trajectories. How can we extract UWND, VWND, and HGTS for a given grid coordinate at a given time/daate from these files? I thought xtrct_grid.exe would do it but it errors that the string length is too long, and since it didn't ask for a grid area or time, I'm assuming xtrct_grid.exe only tries to extract data from the entire contents of a file.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you! We'll need to get data from at least 4 coordinates at a time, and possible even 9. Is it possible to use profile.exe to extract more than a single grid coordinate at a time? Will it just need to be ran once for each location? Would there be a better or different executable to use for this?

Just run it once for each location.
