Backward Daily Trajectory with ECMWF Error

Post by miriam »

I am trying to run a daily backward trajectory over a month using ECMWF data, but HYSPLIT will only successfully run days 2 through 14. Can anyone tell me why I am getting stuck here?

To create my ERA grib files, I download 3D, 2D, and invariant data. Should I be selecting a specific time step for the 2D data? Is it ok to select all times for the 3D?

What ECMWF dataset are you using and how are you converting it to ARL format?
If you are using ecmwf2arl lease make sure you have the latest version.

Try running profile or chk_file on your meteorological file.
What type of error messages are you getting when you run HYSPLIT?

If you are using analysis ERA-INTERIM then for analysis data you can pick times 00/06/12/18 and step 0.
You should pick the same for the 2D analysis fields.
If you are using 2D forecast fields then you want to use time 00/12 and step 6/12.

If you are using all forecast data then you can use 00/12 for time and 3/6/9/12 for the steps for everything.

I am using ERA Interim, Daily and converting it using the HYSPLIT GUI. I receive the following error when running a daily trajectory over one month. I tried specifying the time steps that you listed, but still received the following error:
