Incorrect date for GFS/GFSLRF data

Post by delin.show »

Hello,

Last week I requested FTP data for PC version HYSPLIT (on graphical interface). The data I obtained was always 10 days later from the date I requested, no matter if the data was in GFS or GFSLRF format. For instance, when I requested hysplit.t00z.gfslrf from /pub/forecast/20160718/, I would get a gfslrf data for 2016072800. All the date information contained within the gfslrf file indicates 2016072800 and not 2016071800.

This week I requested GFS and GFSLRF data using unix script in cygwin environment. The data was still 10 days later than what I originally requested. Could you fix this problem with the data files?

The dates are correct in the GFSLR file. The GFSLR (LR stands for long range), starts at the end of the GFS forecast (10 days). The GFS and GFSLR are the same forecast model/run, however the GFSLR is at a reduced spatial and temporal resolution than the GFS beyond 10 days. You can find out more about the differences at:
