routine for direct access to meteo data

Post by lagom »

Hi,

I'm trying to read meteorological fields from ARL format files. My purpose is to know the meteorological state during the release period and for the domain of my simulation. Particularly I would know the stability parameters in the PBL . Finally I'd like to have a sort of map of the stability in my domain.

Are there in Hysplit some subroutines to do this? i.e. extraction of meteo field and stability calculation.

Does someone know other ways to do my task?

Thank you in advance

There is a program called vmixing.exe located in the exec directory that can create a time series of meteorological stability parameters. This program will read your CONTROL and SETUP.CFG files and get you the stability data for your source location.

Hello!!
I have downloaded reanalysis data (.gbl file) and run vmixing.exe and it works fine. Now I am trying to do the same on .bin file extracted from GDAS 1*1, sadly it did not work on this. It said - check input control file for correct value 900. i have put the .bin file and .gbl file in same folder, .gbl file works but .bin file don not.
Can anyone help me out on this?
Thank you

Are you using the GDAS 1 degree files at ftp://arlftp.arlhq.noaa.gov/archives/gdas1/? These are formatted for input to HYSPLIT.

I used this link
http://ready.arl.noaa.gov/ready2-bin/ex ... xtracta.pl
And put area and time of require.
Is that ok?
Or I need to download from the link you provide

Have you changed the meteorological file name in the CONTROL file? Remember that vmixing.exe reads the information from the CONTROL file.

Yes the control file is ok. I am also doing the same with .w5 file. it is also giving result (3 hours interval). But somehow .bin file is not working. In the online version over India I get mixing layer depth for each hour. But here, I am getting resolution of 3 hours. Which database should I use to get 1 hour interval mixing layer depth?

Thank you for reply
