"Nesting" met files on a big grid

Post by sch576 »

I’m running three day concentration back trajectories with hycs_std. I’ve got a pretty large domain for the grid that falls outside of CONUS (or gets real close).

I’m considering trying to “nest” met files, such as

hrrra.<time - 0 hrs. span>
hrrra.<time - 6 hrs. span>
edas-40.<big time span>
gdas.<medium time span>

Is this going to work? Secondly, does the order in the CONTROL file matter?

Yes, this will work. The order of the meteorological files does not matter in the control file. Hysplit figures which file to use according to the spatial resolution, from high to low resolution.
