Re: api2arl.cfg

Yes, it is possible to use the parameterCategory and parameterNumber to extract the variable you are interested in. You will have to edit your api2arl.cfg file by replacing the values for the parameters atmcat (sfccat) and atmnum (sfcnum) which respectively correspond to the parameterCategory and pa...

Re: Transport of Saharan Dust to Texas Gulf Coast

Yes, you can calculate back trajectories using HYSPLIT to determine the transport pathways of the dust. In addition, you can use the dust emission module that is part of the HYSPLIT release to quantitatively calculate the transport, dispersion and deposition of dust particles originated in the Sahar...

Re: Model dust from salt lakes?

You will also need to modify the emission rate since the dust emission module currently included in HYSPLIT is only based on desert dust and it might not be applicable for salt lakes.

Re: Option for vertical motion

Unless you have a reason to choose otherwise you should use the meteorological model vertical velocity output. Nevertheless, depending on your particular application you might need to choose a different option.

Re: User entered meterological data and terrain height?

When you are using a meteorological data set that was already converted to the ARL format the terrain height is included. Therefore, when you set your release location, the model starts from the height you set above the ground level.

Re: Temporal varied emissions

Your configuration is correct. However, in order to avoid repeating 99 times the location in the CONTROL file you can use one header per record as follows: YYYY MM DD HH DURATION(hhhh) #RECORDS YYYY MM DD HH M DURATION(hhmm) LAT LON HGT(m) RATE(/h) AREA(m2) HEAT(w) 1995 10 16 00 0300 1 1995 10 16 00...
