If you are in the working directory, you should create a soft link
ln -s ../guicode/hysplit4.tcl .
so when you type ./hysplit4.tcl the GUI will open.

In the exec directory there is a program called conmaxv that will calculate the maximum concentration at each concentration grid.

Please take a look at the MESSAGE file. When you reach the main computation, the MESSAGE file will show a series of outputs that look like the following:
NOTICE main: 1 44039103 125 4.9999949E-02
The last column represents the total mass that the model is computing.

You are getting that message because the GUI is trying to find a concentration file that has not been generated. Please make sure you are generating a cdump file with some content on it. The GUI will not close when you close your GS window. It is supposed to continue working so you can do other calc...
