Re: Avoid problems with particles reaching the stratosphere

This is not recommended. Lowering the model top for this scenario will cause pollutants that should be transported into the stratosphere to stay below the model top resulting in a high bias in particle concentrations just below the model top. These particles being prevented from crossing the model t...

Re: Dispersion models - vertical motion methods

isosigma would cause the trajectory to stay at the same sigma level.

Re: 3D visualization of Hysplit output?

Producing vertical cross-section and maps of trajectories and particle locations in dispersion simulations will be covered in this tutorial. Yes, it is desirable to analyze results in 3D (i.e., is an air pollution plume at the surface where people breathe or aloft?). What is important / interesting ...

Re: Code parallelization

We do not have a GPU version of HYSPLIT. A group in Australia has worked on porting HYSPLIT to a GPU based code. See: F. Yu, P. Strazdins, J. Henrichs and T. Pugh, "Shared Memory and GPU Parallelization of an Operational Atmospheric Transport and Dispersion Application," 2019 IEEE International Para...

Re: system requirements for ubuntu 18.10

Hi,

Please see the README_external_libraries.txt file in the top directory after downloading and untaring the tarball for the system requirements.

Re: hysplit install linux

Hi, There is something wrong on your end. Please read README_external_libraries.txt in your top directory. It appears not all of the required dynamic libraries are linked to your executable. In the exec directory type: ldd hycs_std to see what dynamic libraries are not properly linked to this execut...

Re: Mixing Height for Back Trajectory

Hi, You can run vmixing in a command shell (i.e., not the gui). To open a command shell in windows, type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the windows search bar. Then move to the directory with your CONTROL and SETUP.CFG files (something like this: cd C:\test_vmixing) and execute the vmixing command (....

Re: Mixing Height for Back Trajectory

Hi, You can use the vmixing program to extract mixing height for any time. In a command shell, move to the directory with your CONTROL and SETUP.CFG files and then execute vmixing ({directory of hysplit4\exec}\vmixing.exe -s2 -t2). The variable Zi in the output STABILITY.txt is the mixing height dep...

Re: Mixing Height for Back Trajectory

Hi, The extra timestep is only a 1 minute timestep. In my tests, I only see differences between the old and updated versions at the initialization time. So, if you want correct the pressure and any diagnostic output (mixing depth for your case) at the initialization time, then I suggest running the ...
