Re: ERA5 reanalysis ARL files

Do you need global coverage?
Also you can try just downloading one day and converting that then erasing the grib files as you go.

Re: Initialize different

Yes - you can utilize an additional input file called an emitimes file. There is some information about how to construct it here: https://www.ready.noaa.gov/documents/Tutorial/html/cust_emit.html https://www.ready.noaa.gov/hysplitusersguide/S417.htm Usually people set up a script to write it rather ...

Re: Ensemble trajectories and uncertainty assessment

The error associated with trajectory integration is much smaller than error due to uncertainty in the meteorological wind field. However, depending on the terrain, you may also run into uncertainty in trajectory path due to influence of terrain. You can try running a few forward trajectories from yo...

Re: Guidelines on Setting Hysplit Level 1 Height

It is hard to answer these questions without knowing the details of your application. Many different techniques for using backwards trajectories for source determination have been developed so I suggest starting with a literature search to see what others working in your field have done. This review...

Re: Trajectories of NASA's super pressure balloons @35km over Antarctica

You may also want to look at using MERRA2 data but you would have to download it from NASA and convert it yourself.
See this thread.

The tutorial includes both batch and bash scripts for running each portion. These can be accessed from the yellow toolbar at the top by clicking the penguin icon (bash script) or chalkboard icon (batch script). https://www.ready.noaa.gov/documents/Tutorial/html/traj_freq.html If you download the tut...

Re: Is thre a way for converting from ARL to grib2 ?

We do not have a utility that converts the ARL formatted file back to grib2. You may be able to create your own utility to do this using the subroutines to read the ARL formatted file and a grib library such as eccodes. Some helpful information may be found here https://www.ready.noaa.gov/HYSPLIT_da...

I don't see an obvious problem.
Is a MESSAGE file created? How do you know HYSPLIT ran fine?

Re: download error when parallelizing dispersion runs using batch script

It is the meteorological data that you are trying to download from the ftp that is causing issues?
Can you download all the data first and then complete the runs?
Please provide examples of the error messages.
