Re: Eddy diffusion in back trajectory?

The trajectory calculation uses the mean wind resolved in the meteorological model. For finer scale eddy motion you cannot use these trajectories.

Re: Single Particle Animation Error

I meant did you verify concplot.ps is as expected? Did you view it and all the images are ok? In Notepad, open the file C:\hysplit4\working\default_exec. When you went in "Set Directories" through the GUI, that is the file that you are changing. Verify it has C:/Program Files/ImageMagick-7.0.4-Q16/c...

Re: Eddy diffusion in back trajectory?

The Basic Tutorial explains the trajectory calculation. https://www.ready.noaa.gov/HYSPLIT_Tutorials.php It is advection only. Per the Tutorial, single trajectories have limitations, hence there are options for an ensemble, starting trajectories with time, etc. For a cloud, you would need to start b...

Re: Single Particle Animation Error

Are you saying you got the same error with both of the following in the "Set Directories"? convert.exe C:/Program Files/ImageMagick-7.0.8-Q16/convert.exe Try it again after exiting the GUI and restarting it, and make sure the Set Directories has the full path (C:/Program...). Did you verify the post...

Re: concentraton-vertical

There is not a program to output a vertical concentration section. You need to run HYSPLIT outputting concentration by layer. Then run con2asc or con2stn. Particle plots can show vertical cross-sections.

Re: Concentration Display in HYSPLIT4

The plot failed. The "Concentration Display" window in the first line shows the input file is named "cdump". Does that file exist and is its size >0? If yes, then run the program through the GUI Concentration / Utilities / Simple Listing, choosing the file "cdump". That will show you information on ...

Re: How to set up HYSPLIT Modeling on PC for calculationg concentration of volcanic ash.

We don't know exactly what is in the ash, so approximations are made. In that GUI section, first do a run choosing Particle, and no wet, no dry deposition. Save the CONTROL file for reference. Then add dry deposition, which will give a value for the deposition velocity. Then add wet deposition.

Re: trajectory frequency plotting contours

The map domain is defaulting to the whole plume, even though you are forcing the higher contour values. Have you tried the Google Earth option? concplot ... -a3 If you want concplot, run concplot.exe in the command prompt, and it will show all the options. Try the -h and -g options forcing 0 circles...

Please send your CONTROL and SETUP files for these runs, and the command line for the program that outputs your values shown.
