Re: More throughput by cloning

You can run more than one hycs_std at a time. This works best if each one is run in its own working directory. So for instance you could have some kind of loop like this. Make directory to run hysplit in. Change to that directory. Create CONTROL, SETUP.CFG (if used) and ASC.CFG files in that directo...

Re: Error during grib to ARL formal-ERA Interim-reanalysis

The conversion program is not finding your files.
Make sure you are giving the conversion program the correct location and name for
your files. For instance, I notice there are curly brackets around the filename in
your error message which probably should not be there.

Cheers.

Re: "Error:113" : convert GRIB data from ERA interim data to ARL format

If you go into your hysplit4/working directory you will find a MESSAGE file you can open in notepad. At the bottom will probably be a line "Input terrain height or surface pressure required" The grib2arl code which is used by the GUI was originally designed to work with other ECMWF datasets (not ERA...

Re: Plotting meteorology data along a trajectory

Ok, I see that you are not downloading the temperature (130.128). The conversion programs are made to be frugal. They won't save the RELH and SPHU because they consider this information to be redundant. They will preferentially save the RELH if both are present in the meteorological file. Then, if y...

Re: Plotting meteorology data along a trajectory

How are you doing the conversion currently?

Thanks,

Re: Backward Daily Trajectory with ECMWF Error

What ECMWF dataset are you using and how are you converting it to ARL format? If you are using ecmwf2arl lease make sure you have the latest version. Try running profile or chk_file on your meteorological file. What type of error messages are you getting when you run HYSPLIT? If you are using analys...

Re: Issue with GRIB data from new ECMWF data server?

The ecmwf2arl converter has been updated so that it resolves the following issues: As noted, forecast fields for the interim data set are put in a separate file from analysis fields. TPPT as well as SHTF, DSWF, LTHF, PBLH, CAPE are all only available as forecast fields (precipitation 228.128, surfac...

Re: Convert IFS netCDF data to arl

There is a program that is distributed with HYSPLIT called ecmwf2arl which will convert ECMWF grib files to HYSPLIT ARL format. It was created to work with ERA-INTERIM files downloaded through the ECMWF API but I think it should work with your forecast data as well. Below are the fields that are nee...

Re: Trajectory of volcanic ash

To trace the path of computational particles in a dispersion run you can look at the PARDUMP (particle dump) file. To see how to tell HYSPLIT to generate a particle dump file see the Users guide section Concentration / Particle / Display http://www.arl.noaa.gov/documents/reports/hysplit_user_guide.p...

Re: Issue with GRIB data from new ECMWF data server?

Ok good - I can reproduce this problem if I try to convert a large grib file (> 2GB).
You can make the grib files smaller by using shorter time periods or downloading less pressure levels.
You can concatenate the resulting ARL files if you need to.
