Re: HYSPLIT on Mac OS Mojave
The issue is with the desktop app that launches HYSPLIT. There are two solutions. One is to start hysplit from the terminal window in the working directory by typing ../guicode/hysplit4.tcl. If you want to launch it from the desktop, create a new file called hysplit4.sh with the following contents: ...

Re: HYSPLIT intended use
The plan seems reasonable. However, one cautionary note. With a WRF grid spacing of 100 m, and with HYSPLIT currently capable of a minimum time step of only one minute, it seems likely that you will have flow regimes where the particles can jump one or more grid points during a time step. Not fatal,...

Re: Pressure Coordinates
The HYSPLIT code remaps all input meteorological data to its own terrain following sigma-height coordinate system from whatever coordinate system was used to create the input data file. All of the current meteorological files provided by NOAA-NCEP for conversion to the HYSPLIT input format have eith...

Re: Wind direction for Trajectory
You would need to create your own meteorological file. Use the GUI meteorology / Convert to ARL / User Entered menu tab. Follow the help instructions S128.htm.

Re: ECMWF switch to GRIB2
A GRIB2 to ARL converter is supplied both with the PC and LINUX versions. You can find the program (api2arl) in the /data2arl directory. Only the source code is provided and it needs to be compiled using the ECMWF grib_api libraries. Some customization may be required depending upon the data fields ...

Re: Lambert Conformal Projection and grib2arl
The grib2arl program only handles global lat-lon input files. The attached program (amps2arl) is a simplified version that will convert GRIB1 files on a conformal projection to the HYSPLIT format without altering the map projection. However, it is hardwired for a particular application and you will ...

Re: Why GDAS0P5 data have no w velocity?
When there are strong vertical motions, the vertical velocity using the integrated divergence and the vertical velocity generated by the meteorological model will give similar results. An example from the 1-degree GDAS is shown. For situations where the motions are weaker, the divergence calculation...

Re: error message
Not having the permission to delete files usually means there is a conflict between user permissions and administrative permissions. Try logging on as an administrator. If there is no administrator account, open the GUI, click on the center "Reset" button, then open either the trajectory or concentr...
