I did follow the instructions and downgraded pandas and I still get the error when running pytest in hysplitplot/tests. Pytest runs successfully for hysplitdata/tests.
After running conda list pandas appears as:
pandas 1.0.1 pypi_0 pypi

I had this same issue today with the Saharan dust example we did this afternoon. I wasn't given any warning, the message file doesn't have any surprises, and the output file is 728 bytes. Where else can I check for errors?
