Paleoclimate grids
I'd like to run HYSPLIT simulations using a paleoclimate grid. Since CMIP6 does not have paleoclimate simulation data at sub-monthly resolution, I'd have to run my own simulation, say with CESM2, with 3-hourly resolution for example, and save the variables required by HYSPLIT. I'd just like to ask i...

Using paleo meteo grids
Hi! I'd like to perform HYSPLIT trajectory and dispersion simulations using a meteorological derived from a paleoclimate simulation. I've checked CMIP6 data but the available time resolution for paleoclimate simulations is monthly at best. I would thus have to run my own simulation and save the data...

Hourly back-trajectories for one year
Hi community, I need to run one back-trajectory per hour, each lasting six hours, from a single point, during a full year. After setting up the parameters on the trajectory's Setup Run menu, I manually modify the CONTROL file, adding "1 60" in one of the lines (1: one single resolution met file, 60:...

Trajectory frequency map: convert to ASCII
Hi, I am running multiple trajectories using the "Special Run -> Daily" routine, and then display a map of trajectory frequencies. Is there any way to convert the data used to plot this into ASCII so as to work with it in other programs? There is the "Concentration -> Utilities -> Convert to -> ASCI...

Re: GUI display not working - Mac OS Monterey
Hello! I tried to follow these steps to download compiler Active Tcl 8.5, but it is no longer available for free. If anyone knows where I may get this version or some other compiler that allows me to use Hysplit's GUI in macOS Monterey, please let me know.

Re: GUI screen is black
Thank you for the link. I followed the steps that the previous user suggested. However, the necessary Tcl compiler to make Hysplit's GUI work for macOS Monterey (ActiveTcl 8.5) is no longer available for free at the website mentioned by the previous user. In case someone knows where I may get it, le...

GUI screen is black
Hello, I am trying to install v.5.2.1 to my Mac (v. 12.2.1 - Monterey). I believe I have correctly installed Tcl/Tk, then Hysplit, but when I open the GUI the screen is black (although I do see the Exit, Help and Menu buttons). Maybe there is a known issue with my Mac version?

Re: soil-dust density (K) and emission area (A) in alternate emission algorithm
But, Ariel, wouldn't that imply that the full area of each grid cell is assumed to emit dust? Isn't it that only a fraction of the area of each grid cell is assumed to emit dust? I've read in Draxler et al. (2010), in section 2.4, that that fraction of the grid cell is calculated based on Ginoux et ...

Control file - revised algorithm - multiple years
I would like to perform a dust simulation that spans multiple months using the revised algorithm. My doubt is: how do I specify the starting locations in the CONTROL file? Let's say I have 20 starting locations and I want to run for 12 months. Since the 4th and 5th columns (U*t and AK) of each of th...

Modify the AOD value used to calculate U*t
Hello, I would like to use the variable-threshold method (revised algorithm) for dust emissions. After reading Draxler et al. (2010) I believe that I should use a different value of AOD than the one described on that paper (AOD = 0.75) to calculate the wind friction velocity threshold. What is the v...
