The CentOS distribution contains binary executables and compilation is not necessary. To run HYSPLIT, unpack the tar ball, change directory to "centOSDynamicExecutables/working," and run the "hysplit4.tcl" script therein. Which tag did you use to get the Linux source code? There are three hysplit.v4.2.0, v4.1.0, and v4.0.0, at the moment.
