The cdump files I have come from a tar.gz file (a backup from an old computer) so I'm extracting them from there onto our remote server using tar commands, then to transfer them off I'm using scp. So if the cdump files have got corrupted somehow, do you know if there's any way to salvage / reproduce...

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand - are you talking about transferring the files onto the forum or about extracting data from the cdump files into a text file?

As older cdump files are working fine for you, would it be possible to send you a sample cdump file that I have to check whether the file itself has problems/is corrupt?

It's currently Revision 817 which we changed to in May 2016 (though when the older cdump files were produced it would have been using older versions).
