Re: Vehicle emissions dispersion
Hi, glad that the earlier response was helpful. Let me try to address your additional questions here. To start, I am considering that 10^4, 10^5, and 10^6 square meters would have characteristic "downwind" lengths of ~100 m, ~300m, and ~1000m, respectively, in thinking about how HYSPLIT might be app...

Re: Vehicle emissions dispersion
Hi, thanks for your questions and consideration of HYSPLIT. Part of the answer really depends on what length scale you are looking at. If you are trying to consider impacts close to roadway, e.g., adjacent to the roadway and up to, say, 500 m or so away, then HYSPLIT is not going to be able to provi...

Re: require registered or Unregistered version of the HYSPLIT?
Hi, thank you for this question. You can absolutely use the unregistered version of HYSPLIT for the Workshop. The Workshop can be done with either the unregistered or registered versions.

Re: Application of HYSPLIT for tracing flying insects
Hello Juhyeong, Thank you for your interest and your questions regarding the use of HYSPLIT to track insects. I will try to provide a few answers and ideas for you to consider. Most scientists who use HYSPLIT or a similar model to simulate insect dispersal do not treat the insects as a "particle" th...

Re: I cannot Run Hysplit after following the installaction
The problem may be that the shortcut doesn't know where Tcl/Tk is, the program that is required to open the HYSPLIT Graphical User Interface (GUI). In item #5 of the PC Install page in the Tutorial, the following is included: If you downloaded the ARL tcl.zip file, after unzipping the file, let's a...

Re: HYSPLIT vs ALOHA preferred distance from source
The HYSPLIT limitations web page (https://ready.arl.noaa.gov/hypub/limitations.html) has a number of cautions, including the one you mention regarding distances less than 1 km. In the past, HYSPLIT was not recommended for distances less than 1 km from a source because the minimum time step in the HY...

Re: Mixing Height Information and Stability Plots
I've updated the Vmixing tutorial, and associated scripts, and have attached them here. The pdf file is the basic tutorial, and the two zip files contain scripts and results for Windows and for Linux/Mac. Windows scripts are DOS Batch scripts, and Linux/Mac scripts are Korn Shell. They are simple il...

Re: Mixing Height Information and Stability Plots
Hi, this is Mark Cohen. Sorry for the delay in responding to this. I will work to package up the scripts and other explanatory material and provide a URL that they can be downloaded from. Hopefully I'll get this accomplished within the next week or so.

Re: MAXPAR/NUMPAR upper limit
Hi, sorry it has taken awhile to respond to your last question. In looking at your questions in this thread, I think the key issue is a what a HYSPLIT "particle" really represents. The "particles" being released and tracked in a HYSPLIT simulation (using the default dispersion mode: 3-D particle) sh...

Re: Initial heights and mixed layer depth
Hello! Thank you for alerting us to this issue, and our apologies for taking so long to respond. First, thanks for providing the details that you did, and for very clear explanations (with color coding!). With the information you provided, I was able to attempt the same runs here (i.e., same startin...
