We figured it out.
It is critical that NOT ghostscript version 9.54 is installed.
After reverting to versions 9.50 and making sure the directories are aligned, it worked again

Re: GSView requesting for verification code
I have the same issue since installing HYSPLIT 5.1, after previously using 4.2 ... When I execute the plot routine, gsview says it cannot find the DLLs, and I had no solution for that. When I tried the solution of copying the ghostscript path to the ghostview path as indicated, I get an error messag...

Thanks!
Yes, I was still running Version 4.2 ... now have the new version

Kz diffusivity
In a paper by Karion et al. (Intercomparison of atmospheric trace gas dispersion models: Barnett Shale case study. Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2019. 19(4): p. 2561-2576), the authors write that "For this reason, future work on the HYSPLIT dispersion model will focus on incorporating additiona...

HRRR forecast data
I could not find anywhere if somebody asked this already ... so my apologies if this is redundant. If I wanted to run HYSPLIT with old HRRR forecast data, and compare the results with reanalysis data, is that easy to do? Is old HRRR forecast data archived on the HYSPLIT server for easy access? Thank...

input data for high resolution modeling
Say I wanted to run the dispersion model at about ten to hundred times higher resolution than the highest available resolution input data (12 km). What are my choices aside from WRF modeling? If I have local meteorological data including heat fluxes, could they be used to set up a grid of the needed...

Re: impact map for receptor, back dispersion setup
ok, I went about it a bit more systematically I think the help texts are a bit confusing. The relevant part in your response is that the input values in the setup file are overwritten, aka the emission rate input is irrelevant. Equation ES32 is straightforward, but that was never my question. The co...

Re: impact map for receptor, back dispersion setup
addendum to my last reply I realized the emission settings were still at 1/hr and 1 hr ... the help file does not address what these should be, but I wonder if emission duration should be the same as total run hours for this application ...? If so, emissions per hour would need to be set to 1/(emiss...

Re: impact map for receptor, back dispersion setup
ok, I increased the hours the grid setting I had left at default because the description is a bit vague, mostly applies to forward dispersion; it only says that "Backward" calculations require that the stop time should come before the start time." But default stop time is a generic number, so that i...

impact map for receptor, back dispersion setup
Howdy! I am trying to set up the "correct" parameters in HYSPLIT to retrieve impact maps of areas contributing to measured concentrations at a receptor site. So far I have NAM 12 km data dispersion "back" setting at -12 h emission set to generic "1" and unit to volume mixing ratio STILT emulation se...
